About

Tony Davis, Technical Demonstrator
Visual Communication, Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, University of Central England
My interests lie in computers, internet, remote control, video, fast food and snowboarding, so have been working on a project to bring it all together... (well not fast food and snowboarding but open to any ideas???).

I have been teaching myself Linux; a platform that has many remote control / configuration capabilities.

The control interface is a Web interface, using;
  • Apache ; web server
  • PHP; hypertext preprocessor, allowing for the dynamic update of pages
  • MySQL; Database Server

VLC is a highly configurable media player

The system runs on any PC of almost minimal capability and idealy connected to a large display (and the internet of course)

Not being tied to microsoft is very appealing, but it looks like a steep learning curve to get into Linux
